Job Description

Ashfield Healthcare is working with Shire provide an education programme to support healthcare professionals (HCPs) within secondary care, in the specialism of haemophilia care. 

Education is provided to support HCPs to optimise treatment for patients with haemophilia. In addition the project will explore the use of technological needs of the patients with severe hemophilia in terms of receiving additional patient service needs and will seek therefore a person who has interest in service development.

Key Responsibilities

To train HCP’s and potentially caregivers/patients in self infusion techniques and the use of PK monitoring devices of factor VIII levels to optimally support the self-administration of the prescribed intravenous therapy of the treatment and prophylaxis of bleeding in patients with haemophilia A (congenital factor VIII deficiency).

  • Undertake clinical, psychological and quality of life assessments for patients with a specific disease area.
  • To manage and report any adverse events and refer as appropriate.
  • To communicate with and develop relationships with key nursing and medical staff at all allocated healthcare organisations adopting the service.
  • To potentially put in place service agreements in accordance with Company policies with secondary healthcare organisations for the delivery of the service to patients.
  • To obtain a detailed understanding of the needs of the centres, patients and caregivers to feel optimally supported
  • Undertake risk assessments prior to and during hospital visits as required by Company policies.

Essential Skills

  • Current NMC registration
  • Previous experience as a Nurse advisor/clinical educator
  • Minimum of two years post registration experience
  • RCN member (or equivalent).
  • Satisfactory enhanced DBS Disclosure or equivalent (Scotland and Northern Ireland).
  • Satisfactory pre-employment medical checks.

  • Knowledge of Haemophilia
  • Interest in Patient Service development
